Once more, welcome.
The topic of today's article is the impact of low emotional intelligence in the workplace.
According to HelpGuide.org, emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathise with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. Emotional intelligence is essential for everyone, not just in the workplace, but also in our personal lives, as it allows us to better manage situations. What are the consequences of a lack of emotional intelligence in the workplace?
Here are some examples of how it affects the workplace:

- Inability to take feedback: Feedback is important because we cannot know everything, and in a work environment, you would need to take one correction or the other, but someone who lacks emotional intelligence may not be able to handle or may shun that Feedback.
- Poor decision-making: Employees and employers who lack emotional intelligence may make poor decisions in the workplace. If a person lacks emotional intelligence, they may make decisions based on anxiety, which can lead to poor decisions. However, when EI is high, they will be able to handle the situation better.
- Lack of EI can affect communication: When EI is lacking in the workplace, it affects decision-making and may create a toxic environment, even if this is not intended; however, when EI is present, communication is improved.

- Leaders who do not listen and become out of touch with those they lead: When a leader or boss lacks EI, it can affect how he treats his employees, and you as a leader may notice that your employees are constantly quitting. You may need to work on this before it has an impact on your business.
- Blaming others: When you lack EI, you may notice that you blame others instead of accepting responsibility for your mistakes. For example, if a manager fails to pass information that the employees need to know because you forgot, you may start blaming them because they did not complete a task. This can occur as a result of a lack of EI.

- Lack of diverse opinions: When emotional intelligence is lacking, this may be more applicable to leaders. Leaders who lack EI will only take their own decisions as final, which can create a toxic work environment.
- Reduced Proactivity: When it comes to emotions, decisions, and/or productivity, leaders and employees become less proactive. When communicating about projects and tasks, a lack of proactivity can result in a lack of direction.
- Lack of confidence: Workers and leaders lose confidence and trust. They begin to doubt their own abilities, motivations, and so forth. They also lose faith in other people.
- Negative Emotions: People effortlessly feel overwhelmed and controlled by a wide range of negative emotions, including anger, worry, shame, disappointment, fear and guilt.

- Negative Perceptions: Those who experience negative emotions often have negative perceptions. They might feel weak, under-appreciated and/or powerless.
- Behavioral Issues: People become incapable of keeping negative emotions in check, which results in behavioural issues such as uncontrolled outbursts and rash split-second reactions.
- They don’t work well in a team: They don’t share or work well in a team and make business decisions based on their emotions rather than sound reasoning. It is hard for them to cooperate, allow others their turn, pass the baton, or share responsibility and praise.
- Their word is law: Employees with low emotional intelligence must always be correct. They will argue over a point for hours and refuse to admit that they are wrong. They also frequently blame others for their own errors and rarely seem to hold themselves accountable.
